ALBANY, N.Y. -- The U.S.S. Slater is open for tours today. Coordinators are encouraging everyone to spend this Independence Day visiting the only destroyer escort afloat in America.

These ships battled Nazi Uboats on the North Atlantic, and Japanese submarines and Kamikaze air attacks in the Pacific.

Tours on the Slater run their normal hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
