ALBANY, N.Y. -- Volunteers in the Capital Region are helping those less fortunate by making sure they have a happy Fourth of July.
The Capital Region City Rescue Mission prepared their annual barbecue picnic for people in the community, including the homeless, who were looking to celebrate the holiday. Indoor activities were also offered to promote staying healthy and living an active lifestyle.
Organizers say people get excited to call the Mission home for the holidays.
“A lot of people paid a big price for us to be free and that were just thanking God and saying lord how can I use this best of freedom in the best way and so they can rejoice in the freedom,” said Perry Jones, Executive Director of the City Rescue Mission.
The City Rescue Mission group says they expect to feed around 500 to 600 people this Independence Day.
