A former Albany Academy star who went on to the NFL has found himself on the wrong side of the law. And the now Philadelphia Eagle could face the consequences. Innae Park has more.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Eagle's wings were clipped when Philadelphia Eagle Dion Lewis and his brother, Lamar, found themselves on the wrong side of a locked door and then on the wrong side of the law.

“The door wasn't damaged, but they were hitting with significant amount of force, trying to get in,” said Albany Police Public Information Officer Steve Smith.

The Lewis brothers were arrested after police say the two were slamming the inside door of the Hamptons Inn Hotel on Chapel Street in Albany at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, trying to get in. According to police, the intoxicated men hit the doors hard enough to almost break them off their hinges. They then pulled the fire alarm.

Smith said, “You're putting people at risk inside the building and you're causing some type of panic in certain situations. And the fire department needs to come and respond to a false alarm.”

The hotel has multiple signs, reminding patrons that access will only be given to guests. Police say the younger Lewis was staying at the hotel.

In the end, the two were charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and the more severe count, falsely reporting a fire, which is a felony.

“Any felony is punishable by more than a year in jail. Obviously, depending on your criminal history, a lot of things will be plead down,” Smith said.

In a statement through the Eagles organization, Dion Lewis apologized, saying in part, "I am sorry for any embarrassment and inconvenience that my actions have caused. I am committed to continuing to conduct myself in conformance with the high moral, ethical and professional standards that I have my entire life and of which so many others rightly expect of me."

The younger Lewis has kept those standards high, having been in the Capital Region before to do good. He has donated equipment to kids in the Albany Pop Warner Program and a visit with campers at the Troy Boys and Girls Club was scheduled for Tuesday. That visit has since been cancelled and the club's executive director does not know if it will be rescheduled. Even so, police are hoping this incident doesn't bring those good works to an end.

“He's done a lot here in the community and is well-respected at Albany Academy,” said Smith.

Dion was arraigned and released, while Lamar was sent to Albany County Jail without bail. Police say the older Lewis has a previous criminal record.
