ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany County Legislature has passed Local Law F, which will create a county-wide database for pawned items, secondhand goods and precious metals.
The legislature passed the law by a 25 to 11 margin on Monday night.
Supporters say the law will go a long way in helping to catch criminals who try to sell stolen items. But many shop owners say it will cost them too much in extra equipment and time spent, as well as increase the time that they would have to hold on to items before selling them.
The new law will take effect in 90 days.
