Woman charged for leaving infant in car

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- A Schenectady woman was arrested after police say she left a one-year-old child in a car for 43 minutes.

Police say 35-year-old Shanika Maxwell was babysitting the child at the time. They say Maxwell left the child in the car, which was not running, with the windows rolled up in the parking lot of Rotterdam Square Mall.

A responding officer broke a window and was able to get the child out.

The child was taken to the hospital and does not appear to have any serious health problems.

Maxwell has been charged endangering the welfare of a child.
