ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany community is throwing some support behind an animal that is often villainized. McGeary's Pub hosted a kick off celebration for the month long even called Pints for Pitbulls.
People who paid $10 received a t-shirt, a raffle ticket, and a discount passport that can be used for specials at McGeary's, The Olde English Pub, and the Merry Monk. The money goes to support the organization Out of the Pits, which helps to rescue pit bulls, and educate people about the breed.
Those with the organization said people often get the wrong impression of the dogs.
"They're just loving animals, a loving breed. And they just want to cuddle and play. They've been a family dog, known as a family dog for centuries," said Carley Murray, Out of the Pits Event Coordinator.
The raffle drawing for the grand prize will be held August 11. The winner gets a tour of the Ommegang Brewery, with tickets to a concert.
