STATEWIDE -- Many counties around New York state have hosted fairs already this summer. But in Central New York, they're getting ready for the biggest fair of all, the Great New York State Fair.
This year marks the 165th year of the fair, held just outside of Syracuse. About one million people are expected to make their way through the gates during the 12-day event, which runs from August 23rd through September 3rd.
Fairgoers can expect to see some big-time musical acts during the fair, but as in previous years, there's also a big focus on agriculture.
"We've really provided an excellent entertainment venue. This is the state's largest sponsored entertainment venue. It's also tremendously educational about agriculture, which again plays a very important role in our economy," said Dan O'Hara, NYS Fair Director.
One of the new food items this year is the big kahuna donut dog, which is a deep fried hot dog inserted into a donut, then wrapped with bacon and covered in maple syrup.
