Red Cross prepared for the worst with incoming storms
CAPITAL REGION -- Officials at the Red Cross are making sure they're prepared for when severe weather hits. They're urging people to have emergency kits.
They have also identified eight counties to open shelters, should it become necessary. Officials said preparations at the Red Cross began as early as Wednesday night, putting volunteers on standby.
"Last night, about 24 hours ago we started to do a call down list of our volunteers throughout our region. We go from Poughkeepsie all the way up to Plattsburgh. So we've got about 1,500 volunteers who we've called and asked what their availability is beginning this morning through the weekend, so we're ready," said Caroline Boardman, Red Cross Regional Communications Director.
If shelters are opened, the Red Cross said a complete list of them will be made available.
