AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- The Amsterdam community is still reeling from the deaths of teens Paul Damphier and Jonathan DeJesus. The two teens were found shot to death in the Town of Florida last week.
A grief forum was held at The Riverfront Center to help educate on how to help their friends and classmates in the community cope.
Out of this forum, organizers hope to understand what individuals need to move forward and what the community as a whole needs to help move on.
"We're hoping that we do get a turn out. We're hoping to get the message to everyone that it's ok to talk to someone, that it's ok to express your feelings, that it's ok to grieve. And that's the message that we're trying to get to the parents tonight and the students and any other community members," said Amsterdam Superintendent Thomas Perillo.
Forum organizers are hoping that this tragedy can inspire positive thinking and ideas that will create opportunities to keep kids off the streets.
