POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Through the "Find and Assist Veterans of Record" card program, known as FAVOR, veterans are able to receive a variety of discounts at businesses in Dutchess County.
And now, any FAVOR card holder can park for an hour, free, at any county office building, including veteran services and the DMV.
County Executive Marc Molinaro said this additional benefit to FAVOR card holders is a modest way of giving back to veterans for their sacrifices.
County Clerk Bradford Kendall said the program also helps bring business to the places that offer discounts and that the county is proud to offer the benefits.
“The favor program was created by the Rockland County clerk a few years ago as a way to outreach to vets and through the clerks association, it’s been spreading across the state,” said Kendall.
Molinaro said, “It occurred to us, thanks to a veteran, Dutchess County didn't have a specific discount we offer and we can’t gift government services because all taxpayers pay for it, we've decide on one hour of free parking.”
County Officials say nearly 2,200 veterans and their families are currently using FAVOR services.
