COBLESKILL, N.Y. -- While clouds covered most of the region early Friday, the sun came through in Cobleskill. "It's the sunshine fair," laughed Schoharie County Sunshine Fair President Douglas Cater.

Just like the community came through after last summer's storms. "Everybody just pulled together. And the volunteers were terrific. And it just made things a lot easier," said Schoharie Resident Juanita Krajewski.

That's why Juanita Krajewski, who herself, lost a home, wasn't worried about the fate of the Schoharie County fair. Even after the grounds were flooded and the estimated income loss and expenses ran about $200,000. "I mean, every building we had to do some type of repairs," said Cater.

He said staff and volunteers worked well up until the last minute to make sure they could operate the nine day event. "As of Tuesday and Wednesday we were just repairing. We had the fence repaired because the fence all around the lower part of the track was down," he said.
"As of Monday, we were still doing the drainage," he added.

And they worked to bring a little sunshine into Schoharie. "It's been a tough, it was a tough year. But we're here to have a little enjoyment. And see a lot of the old friends who are always here year after year and yeah, the Sunshine Fair will always come through," said Krajewski.

Wednesday is Schoharie County Community Appreciation Day. The fair runs through August 4th.
