AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- A benefit was held in honor of the Amsterdam toddler who drowned in the Great Sacadanga Lake last week.

Community members turned out to honor the memory Dominic Latorre, 4, who died while swimming in an unauthorized area at the Northampton Campground.

The benefit raised money for his family and funeral costs. Those who attended said the day was really about remembering Dominic's joyful spirit.

"Dominic was just the most incredible child. he could put a smile on anybody's face, he was so happy, so much fun, sort of mischievous but so cute you could never get annoyed at it," said Rebecca Cope, a family friend.

Participants also held a candlelight a vigil for the boy.
