COHOES, N.Y. -- Cohoes officials said a group of small fires in the downtown neighborhood area has been determined to be suspicious in nature. They said the majority of these fires happened in the late evening and early morning hours.

Nobody has been harmed, but according to officials, there is a strong concern that these incidents are not isolated. The Cohoes Mayor John McDonald said police are working undercover to identify any suspects responsible for the fires, and is asking the public to keep an eye on their neighborhood.

"If you see any suspicious activity, call 911. If you have the ability to, put up additional lighting or cameras in your neighborhood. Please give it some consideration," said John McDonald, (D) Cohoes Mayor. "It may either deter someone from starting a fire, or may actually capture somebody if they are in the act of starting a fire."
