ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. --A man was rescued after being trapped under a riding lawnmower for more than 13 hours. It happened Wednesday evening on Oliverea Road in the Town of Shandaken.

Town of Ulster Police say Richard Bennett, 50, was cutting grass when the lawnmower struck a stone wall, toppled over and wound up on top of him. Officials say that is when his arm became pinned under the shifter knob of the mower.

According to officials, Bennett was rescued around 8 a.m. Thursday by county road workers who heard him yelling for help.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after and believe the rescuers most likely saved Bennett's life.

"This morning when the county workers were on Oliverea Road doing their work, they heard him yelling and went over to his house and found him with the tractor tipped over on his arm and lifted the tractor off and got him sitting and got him a blanket to try and warm him up. If it wasn't for them being on that road, who knows how long he would have still been underneath the tractor and they're the ones who called 911, got him free and got him away and out of the exposure of the weather," said Town of Shandaken Ambulance Lt. Brendan Whalen.

Bennett was flown to Albany Medical Center with a severe injury to his right arm.
