ILLINOIS -- At least one person has died and dozens were injured after a Megabus carrying 81 passengers crashed on an Illinois highway.

Officials say the packed double-decker bus was traveling from Chicago to Kansas City when it blew a tire before slamming head-on into a concrete bridge support pillar on interstate 55.

Helicopter footage shows several emergency vehicles surrounding the bus and rescue crews climbing ladders to reach inside its smashed front end.

It was only two years ago that a Megabus crashed just outside of Syracuse, killing four people and injuring several others. That crash happened during the overnight hours. The driver claimed he didn't see the low railroad bridge until it was too late. He also missed more than a dozen warning signs.
