PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A six-year-old girl was found clinging to a dead body in a Putnam County lake.

Carmel Police Sergeant John Dearman said on Monday night, people were fishing in Putnam County’s Lake Glenieda.

The boaters saw the child in the water, went to pull her to safety and realized something was in the water. They soon realized she was clinging to the floating body of a woman in her 50s

An autopsy will be performed to determine the woman's cause of death.

The six-year-old girl was not hurt.
