ALTAMONT, N.Y. -- "We're probably one of the only ones traveling now with a real giraffe. That's Twiggs. He's 16 years old," said Serge Coronas.

And not a troublemaker. Can't say the same for this pig and herd of goats. They broke free of the Coronas Petting Zoo Tuesday, I guess eager to greet people on the Opening Day of the Altamont Fair.

This is Coronas of Hollywood's debut appearance at the fair. They also brought their racing pigs and Circus Hollywood.

"We've got great acts. We have the globe of death riders, we've got all kinds of animals, like performing dogs, camels, horses. We have a really funny clown," Coronas said.

The Altamont Fair is celebrating its 119th year. Organizers say they keep things fresh by constantly changing things up.

"We bring in a lot of different vendors, change some of the attractions. We have a new two by two zoo this year, a brand new circus," said Altamont Fair Director Bray Engel.

But what people are really excited about are two new rides they're introducing this year. One is called Vertigo, this one's called Speed.

"It's very popular. The kids love it. Basically what it does is the cars here turn in a circle while the whole thing turns," said Joseph Alberds of Reithoffer Shows. "For being spectacular, it's right in our top couple. It's an awesome ride."

Awesome only if you like screaming like a crazy person! Which I do.

But maybe rides don't scare you. Maybe change does. Well don't worry, there's some returning favorites here to the fair, like the World Famous Frisbee Dogs.

"They do back flips standing on the ground and catch Frisbees. They can catch five Frisbees in less than two seconds," said Lawrence Frederick. "The athleticism and the skill these dogs have is just amazing."

If you like anything you've seen, the fair runs until Sunday. Admission is $15 for everything: Parking, shows and unlimited rides.

Our own Megan Cruz tested out “Speed,” one of the new rides at the Altamont Fair.
