Johnny Pesky dies at 92

Johnny Pesky dies at 92
BOSTON (AP) - Johnny Pesky, who spent most of his 60-plus years in pro baseball with the Boston Red Sox and was beloved by the team's fans, has died. He was 92.

Solimine, Landergan and Richardson funeral home says Pesky died Monday in Danvers, Mass. It did not have the cause of death.

In 2004, Pesky told The Associated Press, "I've had a good life with the ballclub. I just try to help out.''

Pesky, a lifetime .307 hitter, was a player, manager and broadcaster for the Red Sox and became an unofficial ambassador for the club. He was part of the celebration of Fenway Park's 100th anniversary in April.

His legacy is a permanent part of Fenway with the Pesky Pole, the right-field foul pole.
