GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. -- Gloversville police arrested two people who they say made fake payroll checks and then cashed the checks at several convenient stores and Price Chopper chains in the area.

After launching an investigation, the Amsterdam Detective Division located Amy Johnson, 22, and Bruce Jessop, 21, at the Valley View Motel. Officials say Johnson and Jessop used online software to create, print and cash phony payroll checks. They are charged with criminal possession of forgery devices and forgery.

Police say Johnson also had outstanding warrants.

Any business that has cashed fake payroll checks is encouraged to contact their local police agency.
