Assistant Superintendent of Goshen schools dies in plane crash
SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. -- The assistant superintendent of the Goshen School District was killed after the single-engine plane she was in crashed on Long Island Sunday, just before noon.
Stony Brook University Hospital tells YNN 60 year old Jane Unhjem passed away Sunday night. Police say Unhjem's 61 year old husband Erik is in critical condition. He was also on the plane.
Police say the plane went down in a residential area about a mile from the Brookhaven Airport, in Shirley.
According to witnesses, nearby neighbors tried to douse the flames with fire extinguishers and garden hoses. No one on the ground was injured.
The pilot died in the crash. His name has not been released.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
