SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- An aspiring FBI investigator has received a $5,000 scholarship from the Schenectady PBA.

The recipient is Schalmont High School graduate Marley Gigler, who is going to SUNY Brockport this fall to study criminal justice.

The memorial scholarship is in its ninth year, with a reward that has grown each year. It's in memory of Eric Verteramo, a Schenectady patrolman who lost his life in the line of duty.

Gigler is thankful to Veteramo's parents, who help keep this scholarship alive.

"I feel amazing right now. I've never received an award worth this much. It's very sentimental too, because it's such a personal scholarship award," Gigler said.

Gigler spent her summer volunteering at vacation bible school and also mentors for the Jefferson Elementary School.
