TROY, N.Y. -- Police in Troy are still trying to figure out how a man ended up shot to death in an apartment building's staircase.

The shooting happened at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Building 4 of the John P. Taylor Apartments in Troy.

Officials say the body was discovered by an adult, but witnesses say some children were there when the body was discovered.

Police are still searching for evidence around River Street and no arrests have yet been made.

According to police, the 38-year-old victim did not live in the building, but one resident said he was a frequent visitor.

After the shooting, however, some residents are reassessing their thoughts about living in the building.

"’Cause I don't bother anybody, so why should anybody want to bother me?" one person said.

"I definitely wouldn't want myself or my child to live in this particular place after what has just happened. There's just no way," said another person.

An autopsy on the body is pending.
