RAVENA, N.Y. -- A fire broke out at the Lafarge Cement Plant in Ravena. The call for the fire came in around 2 p.m. Monday.
When firefighters got there, they found a heavy fire, which they were able to quickly bring under control. They say there were no concerns about hazardous materials, but there was extensive damage to one of the buildings on the property.
“The main belt had snapped and as a result of that snap, overheated the motor and started the belts on fire,” said Coeymans Police Chief Gregory Darlington.
No injuries were reported. It's unclear when full production at the plant will resume.
