NEW YORK STATE -- The Town of Niskayuna has won the title of best tasting drinking water in the state. The contest was held Thursday at the New York State Fair in Syracuse.
The final showdown was between Niskayuna and Guilderland, where fair-goers then voted for the final winner.
Town of Niskayuna Supervisor Joe Landry says the honor is a reflection of all the hard work by the employees in the Water Department, especially those at the Water Plant.
The water tasting contest is held each year at the fair and was started in order to make people more interested in their local water.
"The reason we started doing this is to create some interest in people's mind about their drinking water because people take it for granted. They turn their faucet and there it is. So this way, they can ask questions about their water," an organizer said.
Other honors the Town of Niskayuna water has received include 2012 Best Tasting Drinking Water in Schenectady County and the regional competition title held at “Alive at Five.”
