ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany police officer was honored at the Albany Public Safety Building Thursday night.

Officer Richard Chu was called to a house fire on Wednesday afternoon. When he was told there was a 70-year-old paraplegic man trapped inside, he ran in and carried him out of the building.

The six year police veteran says calling him a hero is an overstatement.

"In a situation like that, it was my first time, the instinct was to just get the person out. It was just instinct," Chu said.

Fire officials say the fire was accidentally started in the kitchen. No one was injured.
