GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. -- Officials had to get creative to drive a bear from a tree in Gloversville. The bear was sleeping in the tree on North Main Street for most of Sunday.

Officials hoped to get the two-year-old bear to come down on its own at dark and avoid tranquilizing it. They ended up spraying the tree with water, and the bear ran and away from officials.

For those in the area, a bear in a tree was something they didn't want to miss.

"I think it's exciting because this town, everyone's here, and I saw it on the internet and came down before going to work tonight, and it's probably where I'll stay until I go to work,” said Jason Montville, a Gloversville resident.

Some police officers and DEC officials are monitoring the area to make sure the bear does not return.
