ALBANY, N.Y. -- In honor of the National Day of Service coming up on September 11th, the Stakeholders Regional Volunteer Center is collecting books to donate to soldiers at Fort Drum.

The initiative was started by a high school student at the Westchester RVC and has now spread up to the Capital Region.

Organizers of the book drive say giving something as small as a book goes a long way.

"Coming from a family with members serving in the military and Iraq and knowing that sometimes just having a book or something to do to keep your mind off the everyday experience when at war is a good thing," said Katherine Hedgemen, Stakeholders Regional Volunteer center.

Books are being collected at Stakeholders Inc at 915 Broadway in Albany on
Sunday, September 9th from 2 to 4 p.m., September 10th from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 11th from noon to 3 p.m.
