SCHOHARIE, N.Y. -- The celebration continues in Schoharie on Saturday to recognize the village's 300th birthday. It kicked off on Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, followed by a youth fair. Many local businesses are also offering 300 cent specials. An outdoor movie screening at dusk in front of the courthouse rounds out the day's events.
The celebration is extra special, coming just over one year after the village was ravaged by severe weather. Community members said it's because of that, that this weekend's festivities are especially important.
"We live ten minutes away, we have ancestors that used to live here. And I feel that because nothing happened to us, we need to come out and support people it did happen to," explained Diane Walion, Esperance resident.
The weekend's celebrations conclude on Sunday. The Schoharie Fire Department's grand parade beings at 1:00 p.m. A community gathering is scheduled to follow, featuring music, speeches, proclamations, food, awards, and prizes.
