COLONIE, N.Y. -- An elderly woman woke up to find someone burglarizing her Colonie house and police say it's not the first time someone has hit the same upscale neighborhood.

The latest burglaries happened this weekend. One was at a home n West Cobble Hill Road and one on East Cobble Hill Road.

Officers say around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a 72-year-old woman woke up to find a masked man in her bedroom. He told the woman to get down and stay quiet, but instead, she struggled with the suspect and police say she hit him with a lamp.

The woman was taken to Albany Memorial for minor injuries. Police say the suspect got away with at least $20,000 worth of jewelry.

Police say the suspect seems to enter on the second floor looking for jewelry.

On Sunday, a resident of West Cobble Hill Road returned home and found their house was also burglarized and jewelry was missing.

Police say these burglaries are consistent with two other burglaries reported last month that also occurred on West Cobble Hill Road.

"He is coming prepared. He is very organized in the sense he is ready in case he is confronted inside the house. Very calm. No panic when he was confronted by this woman and did what he was going to do. He didn't hurt her intentionally and fled with the property he came for," said Lt. Robert Winn.

Residents are reminded to be alert for suspicious people and vehicles, keep doors and windows locked and lights on. Anyone with information should call Colonie Police at 783-2744.
