Woman arrested for assault on officer
ALBANY, N.Y. -- A Colonie woman was arrested after police said she injured an Albany police sergeant on North Pearl Street over the weekend.
According to Albany police, Sgt. Melissa Gipson was patrolling North Pearl Street shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday when she was flagged down by a woman who said she and her friend were smacked across the face by Katelyn Lyons.
Sgt. Gipson caught up with the 21-year-old Lyons across the street outside Legends. While Gipson was talking with her about the complaint, police said Lyons punched Gipson in the face and tried to pull her to the ground. While Gipson was trying to handcuff her, Lyons put her fingers in Gipson's mouth and continued to try to pull her to the ground.
A bouncer from Legends helped get Lyons into custody. She was arrested for second-degree assault, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, and resisting arrest.
Gipson was admitted to the hospital with a concussion and an infection inside her mouth.
