KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Kingston officials are expected to give an update on the condition of the Washington Avenue sinkhole tonight at a Common Council meeting.

Long-awaited construction work on the sinkhole began earlier this week, with the initial process of sediment removal. The removal process involves a hopper that is lowered into the sinkhole's tunnel to collect the sediment, and panels being installed and grouted in place.

The City Engineer says that process will be repeated throughout the entire affected area. Officials don't expect the street to reopen until after the winter.

The update will be given at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
