ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany school district has a new superintendent. The board of education voted Tuesday to make Dr. Marguerite Wyngaard the district's new superintendent.
Dr. Wyngaard has served as a senior administrator for the past eight years in New Jersey's Paterson Public Schools. Wyngaard was part of a pool of more than two dozen candidates after a national search in March and April. She says she is eager to get to work.
"It seemed like a long road, a productive road. It had to happen that way, but really getting on the ground, meeting the staff, meeting the leaders, meeting the community and creating a plan and implementing a plan for student achievement. It’s that waiting game that's difficult to manage,” Wyngaard said.
Wyngaard is also the first African American woman to lead Albany's public schools. Her first day with be Monday, September 24th.
