ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- It was a night of victory for the third time running for Albany County District Attorney David Soares, as he celebrated the results following a difficult, mudslinging campaign trail. As he entered his watch party Thursday night, chants of “Four more years, four more years,” welcomed him.

“I want to thank the Albany County voters for really seeing through a lot of the nonsense being thrown at them,” he said.

When asked how his next term would differ from the past, Soares said not much would change, but there would be a stronger emphasis on the connection between the many juveniles filling jails and low graduation rates.

“We've established relationships with our schools and over the next four years, it's about working closer together to deliver better public safety results,” said Soares. “It's not just about having one of the highest conviction rates for our felons, but it's also about trying to win the peace and investing resources into those communities that are hardest hit.”

In the end, Soares had a strong message about his, and his office’s, involvement in the community.

“It's finding homes for our victims who are homeless as a result of their crime. It’s battling with insurance companies to cover our victims who, we feel, should be covered as a result of suffering some of the worst injuries. It’s showing up at a prom because a young lady, who we’re fighting for, has been a victim of bullying. Those are the things that make us who we are,” he said. “That's what defines the Albany County DA's Office. It's not just about fighting crime, it’s about building hope.”

Soares also took the time to thank his staffers, saying they had been negatively impacted in a way during the campaign that only he should've been, with personal attacks. However, they're all celebrating now.

With the results from all 319 precincts in, Soares has 14,498 votes to Kindlon's 10,132, about a 4,000 vote difference. With no other candidate running on another party line for the position, Soares will remain in office for another four years.
