BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- The Irish 2000 Festival is underway at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds, but construction enroute to the music is making it difficult to get there. If festival goers take I-87 North, they will face delays up to an hour to cross the Twin Bridges.

The northbound bridge is closed for the weekend, and successive weekends through October, with the southbound bridge bearing the extra weight. According to festival organizers, the crowd was slow to grow, and they are worried some might not come at all due to the construction.

The festival's Facebook page is dotted with travel advisories and detour suggestions. The DOT said it recognizes the inconvenience to drivers and after the construction was finished last weekend, they've been working on a better plan to enhance traffic operations. In past years, Irish Festival organizers have entertained 15,000 people.
