STATEWIDE -- Many people are experiencing the sneezing, coughing, and other symptoms that go along with allergies right now. Experts said it's been an extra long allergy season due to earlier tree pollen exposure in the spring.

Ragweed is the main culprit for symptoms right now, and will continue to be an issue until the first frost. Local allergists said the ragweed counts are fairly high, but are nothing out of the ordinary compared to previous years. But, they expect this fall will be a bad season for mold because of the wet weather in the late summer and early fall.

"Recent rainfalls have certainly added to mold. Mold is fairly high right now, normally mold doesn't get this high until later in the year, so it's early start to mold season," explained Mohan Dhillon, allergist.

Specialists recommend over the counter anti-histamines and prescription medications for those who are suffering from allergies. Allergy shots or immunotherapy can help in those with more severe allergic reactions.
