SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A meeting is planned for tonight to discuss the possibility of opening a charter school in the city of Schenectady.
Officials with the proposed Eximius Academy Charter School say they are looking to use a building on Nott Street as the location for the school. The building used to be home to the Department of Social Services before they moved to Broadway back in 2009.
Advocates for the school say they've been trying to open one for the past two years.
According to the school's application, if opened, 156 kindergarten and first grade students would be accepted and 78 kindergarten students would be added each year until it is a K-5 school.
The meeting is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Mount Pleasant Middle School.
