SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- There are 12.5 million people unemployed across America, with an additional five million people out of work for more than 27 weeks. Schenectady is working to turn those numbers around locally.

A job fair is being held today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Proctor's Theater. This location was picked, in part, because it’s an easy drive and convenient for bus routes.

It's the first time the non-profit "Capital Job Development Group" is hosting in Schenectady, and plans to do so twice a year.

"We have several health care industries, things like Ellis Hospital. We have New Visions. Visiting Nurses of Albany and Schenectady. We have Citizens Bank, Macy's, Sears, the National Guard. The police department, the school district, we have it all," said Peter Jones, Capital Job Development Group.

YNN's parent company, Time Warner Cable, is also on hand looking for new employees.
