ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York State continues to move forward with plans for a new Tappan Zee Bridge. On Wednesday, Governor Cuomo announced a team of people who will review proposals for the new bridge and assist local leaders in selecting the final design.
The group consists of well known artists, technical experts, and community leaders. Among the criteria that will be considered when selecting the new bridge will be its ability to meet strict environmental requirements, the bridge's lifespan, and the plan's investment in future transportation opportunities, including Bus Rapid Transit and rail options.
Governor Cuomo said the project is about more than just rebuilding a bridge.
"Yes, it's a bridge, but it's a symbol of what we're trying to do, to get the government running, to get the government as an agent of change, to get the government competent and functioning and to get big things done in the State of New York again," Cuomo said.
After the review team has made a recommendation, it will be up to the New York State Thruway Board to make a final decision.
