Green Island students evacuated after odd smell detected
ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- Five students were sent to the hospital after a strange smell was detected at the Green Island School.
The school's website says that some staff and students noticed an odd smell a little before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The fire department was called and school officials were advised to pull the fire alarm, evacuating the building.
Five students complained of dizziness, irritated eyes and headaches. Parents were notified and they were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Students and staff went back into the building once fire officials deemed it safe.
Representatives from the Green Island Power Authority are investigating.
