Massachusetts loses 4,800 jobs in August

MASSACHUSETTS -- Massachusetts lost 4,800 jobs last month, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The loss follows a gain of 300 jobs in July.

In addition, the total unemployment rate in Massachusetts inched up from 6.1 percent in July to 6.3 percent in August, although, the current unemployment rate is down 1.1 percent from August of last year.

The August 2012 estimates show about 3.2 million Massachusetts residents were employed and about 219,000 were unemployed.
