FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Plans to turn the former Tryon Boys and Girls Center into a tech park is moving forward.
The Empire State Development Board of Directors approved the transfer of the facility to the Fulton County Industrial Development Agency. The IDA plans to turn the more than 500 acre campus into a technology park and incubator center.
The ESD board says transferring the facility to the county would benefit the local economy the greatest. The hope would be to attract investments, create new jobs and increase tax revenues for the county.
The project is expected to cost $3.14 million, but is being supported by a $2 million Regional Economic Development Council grant.
Plans to transfer the facility now head to the Attorney General's office and the Comptroller's office for final approval.
