WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Cambridge couple has been accused of setting their home on fire while their child was inside.
Police say Frank Ruggles Sr. and Leann Coon set their home on fire on September 1st, with their three-year-old son inside. There were four other children there at the time of the fire, but police say there were not inside.
Police say either Ruggles or Coon picked up and carried the child outside, then called 911. The child was not hurt.
Police say the motive for the fire is clear.
“It was intentionally set to obtain a new trailer to live in. This is an older home. They were looking for a newer home and $102,000 in insurance altogether between the value of the residence and the value of the contents,” said New York State Police Senior Investigator Thomas Aiken.
The couple has been charged with arson, insurance fraud and endangering the welfare of a child. They are being held at the Washington County Jail.
