CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- More than a week after election night, ballots are still being counted in the 41st Senate District Republican Primary.
After re-canvassing and absentee ballots were counted in Rensselaer and Washington counties on Thursday, challenger Kathy Marchione carried a 110 vote lead over Senator Roy McDonald heading into Friday.
On Friday morning, Columbia County Board of Elections officials re-canvased the county’s more than 2,000 ballots from last Thursday. While an exact number is not known, an attorney for Marchione’s campaign tells us it’s believe she picked up three or four votes in the process. If that’s a case, her lead grows to 113 or 114.
Absentee ballots in that county and Saratoga County are scheduled to be opened Monday.
