ALBANY, N.Y. -- A benefit was held in Albany on Friday to support the Best Buddies program of the Capital Region.
People in the community came out to the "Evening Under the Stars" gala celebration and silent auction to raise awareness and funds for the group.
The friendship program connects people with disabilities with volunteers in the community looking to provide leadership and friendship.
"There are over 3,000 that participate in our programs. We have middle school, high schools and college programs and what we think is really amazing about Best Buddies is that is teaches you about awareness and respect and it's not just for people with disabilities, but anyone who can be considered different," said Nicole Burch, Program Manager at Best Buddies International.
YNN's Ryan Peterson emceed the benefit.
Best Buddies is an International program that was founded in 1989 and has 24 programs throughout the Capital Region.
