SARATOGA, N.Y. -- "You can first of all, see up close and personal all the types of things that these builders can do. The crafts that they can put together," said Saratoga Builders Association Executive Director Barry Potoker.

Sunday, a Park Alley home was open to tours. It's one of 19 on display during this year's Saratoga Showcase of Homes. According to Potoker, the three-weekend event serves as an inspiration.

"It does kind of get you motivated to, whether it's renovating or your moving, or its new construction," he said.

And those are the types of projects builder John Witt said he's getting more of.

"In previous years we had you know, very little activity to no activity. And now, we have new people approaching us on a daily, weekly basis," John Witt, President of Witt Construction Inc.

A sign he said that the housing market is picking up. And according to the Greater Capital Association of Realtors, it is. The organization reports sales through the end of August are 14 percent higher than last year and the median sales price is also up.

"If we look back at the history we've had for the last four years. Then yes, I would say we're very pleased that the market continues to improve," said Greater Capital Association of Realtors CEO James Ader.

But even if you're not in the market to buy or sell, Potoker said the showcase is still something to consider.

"They can get to see all these beautiful homes, secondly, all of the proceeds from the Showcase of Homes goes to two local charities," he said.

The event continues next Saturday and Sunday.
