SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The college hockey season will start in just about two weeks, and the Union College Dutchmen will start the year with their highest pre-season ranking.

Union is ranked #5 in the first USA Today/USA Hockey magazine poll released on Monday.

The Dutchmen are coming off the best season in school history last year. They won their first ECAC tournament championship, went to the first NCAA tournament in school history and advanced to the Frozen Four.

Union was 26-8-7 last season. They open the season on Friday, Oct. 6 at home hosting Merrimack. Defending national champs Boston College and Minnesota are tied for first in the poll.
