SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady police want to know who abandoned three puppies in a milk crate.

The puppies were found near 7th Avenue in the front yard of someone's house. They were brought to the Hernas Vet Clinic, where the staff is trying to get them to eat and drink.

Sadly, one of the pups has already died. The other two aren't eating on their own yet, so they're being force fed with milk, baby food, anything to get in their system.

"They came in and they were a little cold, they probably had been outside most of the night or all night. And this was pretty much the condition that you're seeing them in that we got them in. Weak, they're just tired and lethargic because of no nutrition," said Jennifer Riehlman of the Hernas Veterinary Clinic.

Riehlman says the puppies look like they could be a hound-mix because of their big ears, but they won’t know for sure until the puppies are healthier and back to a normal weight.
