SHEFFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The man who died while fishing on a remote Sheffield lake this week has been identified as a 67-year-old Chicopee man.
Authorities say Richard Joly's death Tuesday was consistent with a drowning.
Police say Joly's body was recovered several hundred yards from shore in Threemile Pond at about 6 p.m. Tuesday - nearly seven hours after his boat capsized. The 49-year-old survivor, identified as Edward Caisse III of Chicopee, swam safely to shore. Police say Caisse is Joly's nephew.
The lake in southern Berkshire County is so remote that the survivor yelled for help for 90 minutes before someone heard him.
About 100 rescue personnel participated in the search, which was made difficult by the murky and weedy water.
