TROY, N.Y. -- With the 65th annual Turkey Trot just under two months away, Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia held a press conference Thursday as preparations get underway in the host city.
This year's 65th annual run will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd.
Here's a look at last year's race. More than 7,000 runners and walkers from 36 states are expected to lace up their sneakers for this year's Turkey Trot. Mayor Rosamilia says it’s a chance for people to get exercise, while also supporting local charities.
"A lot of support. We know that the economy is difficult now. We're asking people to make that donation as they register. We want to help the charities,” Rosamilia said.
This year's event has got something for everyone, featuring a 5K and 10K run, as well as the turkey walk.
Mayor Rosamilia was the first to sign up for the one mile turkey trot. Registration is now open to the public.
