GREENPORT, N.Y. -- One man is dead after State Police say they believe a man suffering from a medical emergency lost control of his minivan and crashed into a tree in a homeowner's front yard. It happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday on County Route 31 in the Town of Greenport
Troopers say Richard Stickles, 54, of South Cairo, drove across the oncoming lane and into an open field.
"Ran off the road, traveled through a hay field into the yard, through some trees and brush, hit a tree and the vehicle came to rest in front of the house. The homeowner came outside and found him unresponsive, she called 911 immediately," New York State Police Captain Scott Brown.
Troopers say Stickles was found unresponsive at the scene and that is when responders attempted CPR. He was then transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
